Luis Tovar

Elder

Growing up, if the church doors were open, my family and I were there. My parents raised my sister and me to fear the Lord and follow a strict set of religious rules. So, as the elder son, I followed all the rules. I received Christ at an early age and lived my life by the law, not fully understanding God’s grace. My parents were wonderful examples, but my walk was primarily characterized by obedience, not complete submission. It wasn’t until I entered college in 2003 that someone really showed me what it meant to have a relationship with Christ. My mentor at the time challenged me to understand what I believed and helped me to live by faith and walk in the Spirit.

After graduating from the University of North Texas, I got a job teaching Spanish here in Denton. Shortly after, I married the lovely and talented Anna Tovar. We have since fallen in love with Denton and, in particular, The Village Church. The Lord has used the community of believers here to challenge and encourage us in ways that we could have never imagined. If that weren’t enough, the Lord has blessed us with the birth of a son, Axel, and a daughter, Eden. His presence in our lives has made the gospel that much clearer.

Now I get the distinct honor of serving a church body that has permanently changed my life for the better. God is good.
