I grew up in a loving, Christian family. My parents made a point to spend time with us, laugh with us, and even discipline us. They also made a point to teach us about the Lord. They modeled well how a Christian should live – attending church with the body, living in community with fellow believers, inviting non-Christians into our home and lives, leading others in the church, and always seeking to learn about God. My wife and I strive to do the same in our family.
When I was about 13, the guy who ran sound at our church scooped up my brother and me to give us something useful to do instead of running around like hooligans. He started teaching me how to run sound and my brother how to run slides and lights. I fell in love with it! I definitely had a talent for audio engineering, and he took me under his wing to teach me his ways. It wasn’t until years later that I realized how big of a deal he was – a world-renowned audio engineer and acoustician whose company designed audio, video, and lighting systems for stadiums, theaters, and megachurches around the world! And he took me – barely a teenager at the time – under his wing to train me up from scratch. What a model of discipleship!
I’ve lived in Denton off and on since 2005 and at The Village Church or The Village Church Denton almost as long. I’ve always said that my favorite place to be during worship is behind the audio board, and it’s a pleasure to enable worship for the body from that spot!
