I was born and raised in the great state of Oregon. From a young age I was very interested in finding out the way things worked. I watched a lot of Discovery Channel and TLC (before the shows were all about home decorating) trying to figure out why I was here and how the world was formed. One day when I was 14 I remember waking up and saying to myself, "If all the things I've learned are true, then I'm the same as a tree, and when I die, I'm done." For some reason that didn't sit well with me so I asked my oldest sister, who had been saved in college, if I could attend church with her the next day. Four weeks later I was saved by Jesus Christ and my life has been fuller and richer than I could have ever imagined.
I attended Seattle Pacific University in Seattle, Washington and earned a degree in Christian Theology. I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do exactly so after I graduated I moved with a friend to Lubbock, Texas. In retrospect, I'm grateful for my time in Lubbock, but that first July, August and September was brutal! I literally thought I was going to melt. It was in Lubbock that I met my beautiful bride, Natalee, and began to feel the call to pastoral ministry. I worked at a church there leading worship for about three years until Natalee and I relocated to my home town of Portland. We were in Portland for two and a half years and I served as the Worship Pastor at a church called River West. It was at River West that God really began to teach me, through our Senior Pastor, what pastoral ministry was really about — the weight, beauty and responsibility of shepherding God's people.
