Growing up, I could hide behind the mask of my giftings and abilities to please people. I was the friend who was always involved in academics, athletics, and other social activities and would often perform to earn the approval of others. The pressure to be someone who I wasn’t took over my life to the point that my body physically stopped in my teenage years. But through this freak health accident, the boldness of a friend, and the grace of the Lord Jesus, I was able to see my need for a Savior.
After this health accident, a lifelong friend reached out with the simple text, “Praying for you.” With this text, my entire life and eternity changed as I sought how the power of prayer would help me in my physical condition. From this, and the faithfulness of men and women of a local church, I heard the Gospel taught for the first time and decided to shape my life around knowing and loving Jesus and making His love known to others.
I moved to Denton in 2021 on the recommendation of a mentor and started attending the Village Church Denton. Through attending this church, I have seen evidence of the Holy Spirit molding me to look more like Jesus and how that has affected those around me.
I am nowhere near perfect. Like Paul, in 1 Timothy 1:15, I acknowledge that I am the worst of all sinners. But through the mercy found only in Christ Jesus, my life now actively reflects joyful obedience through repentance of sin and sacrificial love to those around me. Only because of and through Jesus Christ am I able to experience such a love that I cannot help but change my life and share it with others.
